When to travel

With diverse geography, great culture and history and a varied climate, Kenya really is a year-round destination. Go between mid-August and late October to see the Great Migration on the Masai Mara. March to May can be very wet and some camps or lodges may be closed.

1. How do I get to & travel around Kenya?

The Middle Eastern carriers and South African Airways fly into Nairobi international airport. Kenyan safari access is primarily serviced by charter flights. From Nairobi travel to your safari destination by private car or plane.

2. How long should I spend in Kenya?

Two weeks will have you experiencing many of the key highlights of Kenya. We would highly recommend including one of Africa’s neighbouring countries including Uganda or Rwanda for once-in a lifetime gorilla trek, Tanzania for more incredible safari action or the islands of Seychelles to relax on a stunning beach.

3. Will Kenya suit my travel style?

If you are a culture-seeker and want to experience the African way of life, Kenya is a fantastic destination. The Kenyan people are very friendly and welcoming and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about their culture. Kenya is the home of the classic safari and is fantastic for first-time travellers to Africa. Backed by years of experience, Kenya is a great place for families too.

5. What essential information should I know before visiting?

Currency: Kenyan shilling.

Visa: Australian citizens require an entry visa for Kenya. You can obtain a visa at the port of entry upon arrival for US$50 single entry or US$100 for multi entry. Valid for three months. Also available is the East Africa tourist visa for US$100, valid for 90 days, that will give you entry to Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.

Language: Swahili and English are the official languages and you will get by easily with English widely spoken.

Health: Anti-malarial’s are required for some areas. We recommend visiting your travel doctor for the latest information on travel vaccinations.
